OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a project founded in 2004 with the goal of creating a free world map. The map data is created and maintained by thousands of volunteers around the world. OSM data can be used free and can be further improved by all of us. Due to the large number of contributors, the data is often very up-to-date and detailed.

Up to now, ornitho.de/lu only had an OSM map with status 2014 available. Now with "OpenStreetMap Live" another map basis is available. Unlike the OSM 2014 or e.g. the topographical maps the calculation of the individual tiles is done on request. This means that when using this map, the current status of the OpenStreetMap is always retrieved.

If it becomes apparent that the map is no longer up to date and certain details or entire landscape elements are missing (e.g. hedge structures or newly created gravel pits), these can be added at any time on www.openstreetmap.de and 24 hours later the revised maps can also be used when entering data into ornitho.de/lu.

"OpenStreetMap Live" can be used for data input via the website ornitho.de/lu as well as via the app "NaturaList". It can also be used as an offline map.

We would especially like to thank the Swiss Ornithological Institute for the substantial funding of this huge imporovement and the Biolovision team for the ingenious implementation of the idea of a daily updated map, which everyone can contribute to improving!
