Small adjustments to frequency classes

In ornitho, colour differentiation is used to distinguish between common species and rarities at first glance. Captive escapees, neozoans and hybrids are also shown separately (in blue).

At the beginning of 2021, we transferred the neozoa established in Germany (e.g. Pheasant, Egyptian goose and Feral pigeon) to the general frequency classes. Non-established neozoa, as well as captive escapees and hybrids, are still consistently shown in blue.

In practice, a few taxa account for the vast majority of reports in this class and others are therefore easily overlooked. In consultation with the ornitho steering committees, it was therefore decided to make the following changes:

Mallard, bastard, off-colour: This taxon was transferred to the "less common" class nationwide. This taxon accounted for almost 30% of the reports in the previous frequency class.

Carrion x Hooded crow: This taxon was transferred to the "common" class in the "north-east German lowlands" natural area. This taxon accounted for around 20% of the reports in the previous frequency class.

In the course of the revision, we also made the following changes:

Pygmy Cormorant: In view of multiple breeding records and permanent presence in the natural areas "Southwestern Central Uplands" and "Alpine Foothills", we have transferred it from "very rare" to "rare". Around 20% of the reports in the previous frequency class in 2023 were accounted for by Pygmy Cormorants nationwide, which were predominantly concentrated in the aforementioned natural areas.
